HERStory

To recognize and celebrate the contributions of women in the area to the arts and creativity
during Women's History Month

Saturday, March 15th at 7:30 pm

 

Local singer/songwriter Pamme Swann will sing original songs from her newest CD titled "Songs from the Mountains East and West." Other presenters include artist and poet Rachael Z. Ikins reading poetry about a local pioneer woman; writer Samanthi Martinez reading a personal reflection, "Time is not Kind to a Woman;" and Meredith Leland and Mary Messsere (Back Street Mary) presenting a view into the life and literary work of 19th cnetury Hamilton writer, Emily Chubbuck. Hamilton's new women's vocal ensemble, "Jubilation" will also perform a sampling of songs that expresses the joys and struggles of all women, including a Slavic folk song and on of Norah Chamber's "Songs of Survival."

Group Works


The Traveling Community Canvas - An Expression of Giving

This event is co-hosted by Gestures, MadArt and the Children's Art Program

The Canvas, created by local children participating in the Children's Art Program held at MAD Art, will be on display at Gestures. We hope the event will increase awareness as to the ways in which art enriches lives and builds self-esteem in children and teens. It is also a fundraiser for scholarships and materials in order to continue to make art programming accessible to many many more of our community children and teens. Tax -deductible contributions are payable to Mad Art, Inc.

Opening Reception includes refreshments and musical entertainment


Children's Art Program

Tuesday and Thursday afternoons, 3:00 - 5:00 PM. 

Kathy Herold will be conducting this program at the Art space.  Activities include (but not limited to): acrylic painting; Rube Goldberg's wacky inventions; recycling sculptural project using plastic water bottles, paper mache and wire; and painting a mural on the traveling community canvas.

10-week session: Members $130 - non-members $145.
Some scholarships are available.

On  going Workshops


Adult Group Studio Time  -  Thursdays, 6:00 - 9:00 PM
This is an opportunity to work on a still life in your chosen medium. Workshops can go in 
many  directions including working from photos; portraiture, etc.
Some materials, including easels, will be available.

Members $10.00 per session/$15.00 non-members. 
(
5 workshops for $40.00/$65.00).           
Drop-ins are welcome and scholarships are available.

Holiday Arts Fair

November - December 2007

Meet the Artists & Artisans Open House Saturday,
December 15, 2007
10:00 AM - 6:00 PM

Artists & Artisans will be on hand to talk about their work and the techniques and materials they use,
answering questions from patrons and describing their creative process.

Kathy Herold will conduct Children’s Art Activities
between 1:00-3:00 PM, – fun for children of all ages!
 

Musician Dave Folta will introduce his “Amigo” and entertain us with a performance of Christmas Songs. The “Amigo” never fails to delight – you will be amazed at how easy it is to play.  Try one out, and take an “Amigo” home for the Holidays (several will be for sale).  Join in an informal workshop on
“Introduction to Fretted-String Instruments” starting at 3:00 PM.

Refreshments & musical interludes will continue
 Reyna Stagnaro promises to play her mandolin. Participate in the merriment by bringing in an instrument for a spontaneous musical jamboree. 
 

Same Blood Folk
 
will perform an acoustic set of their 
original & innovative songs
at 6:00 PM.

Same Blood Folk's style resonates with the roots of traditional music, bluegrass and folk, for compelling and soulful original songs, written by cousins Zachary and Jenny Collins. The Hamilton-based group performs at venues around the Central New York area.
